There's a great article in Slate that talks about recent polls in the US showing fewer people than ever support the death penalty. Perhaps it's because of the inhumane methods of killing, and maybe it's because of the hundreds of innocent people who have been wrongly sentenced. I had a friend who worked with the Innocence Project, and hearing those stories put chills down my back. I will still support the end of the death penalty for the reasons listed above, as well as because it's really goddamn expensive. It's cheaper to keep people in prison forever, rather than go through the costly appeals process.
