despair

People are willing to do anything to preserve the right to have sex whenever they want to! It's not up to anyone except an individual and that individual's partner whether they will have sex, and anyone who gets nosy about anyone else's bedroom is overstepping in a BIG way.

I can see where religious folk don't think people "ought to," but unless again, that individual and that individual's partner are saying it about themselves, then it's entirely none of anyone else's business when and where and IF they "get busy."

Criminalizing family planning because someone doesn't like sex is not the answer! I used to think it was about "Life" but after some time around the pro-lifers I have seriously come to doubt that. I wish there were better arguments so I could come to a better understanding, but that has not been the case. Even with birth control that does not have an "abortafacient" effect, I've learned that so many pro-lifers are still looking to turn non-breeders into criminals and outcasts. I'm very disappointed with the majority of points of view I've seen. I am a very open person and have really tried to come to some understanding but apparently (so far) it's been all about vilifying anyone who does not support the religious agenda. This makes me very sad, and I'm not being dramatic or sarcastic. It really makes me fear for our divided nation.

humorous commenting on other blogs

From the annals of the blogosphere....:

Biologically, the purpose of sex is procreation and our bodies are designed toward that purpose. No matter how hard we try, our bodies are going to try to procreate. That's why we have a sex drive and why when we try to circumvent the goal, it often fails. What's the line in Jurrasic Park?--"Life finds a way."

Gravatar Man is nothing if not a proven fighter of nature.
Yes, our bodies, like all evolved species are designed to have procreative sex. We're also designed to urinate. That doesn't mean that we can't make the choice of where and when to do it!

Shelley,

"Man is...a proven fighter of nature" You wait too long to use the rest room and you may not have a choice as to where and when. You fight off the natural and healthy processes of fertility with contraception, and you find the same effect.
Suzanne,

So if I keep using birth control then one day I'm going to have a find a spot really fast(!) to give birth uncontrollably?
That argument is sort of ridiculous, unless that's not what you meant. If you meant it another way then please explain!

death march

It never seemed such a short walk before. Twelve feet from my bedroom to the bathroom - who knew I'd not be able to make it? Friday night was just intense. I had severe abdominal pain and tried to get to the bathroom, and completely lost control of my senses. The room was spinning uncontrollably, and I lost my ability to walk, or stand, or do anything but lie there and die. I called for my honey to wake up and help me, and he managed to get me back to the bed. The next 8 hours was a dark nightmare of pain and thoughts of death. I didn't even think I was afraid to die after the last time, but I was wrong. I was terrified by the way I was blind and spinning for so long, and my guts were on fire. On the pain scale it went to eleven, and it didn't stop. I had to get up to use the bathroom a few times and it was like being on a really bad LSD trip. Pain and spinning and blindness, and didn't know where or who I was. I did pass out a few times, and eventually in the wee hours of morning I was able to sleep.
Saturday I stuck to liquids (sips of water) and Sunday it was more of the same, plus some soups. I also rested a LOT. I played lots of Civ 4 Warlords (the new expansion) and watched 8 episodes of Quantum Leap Season Two.
I missed a lot, including my volunteering at the Farmer's Market, the Nazi protest at the capitol, and canvassing for Fair Wisconsin (same-sex marriage) against the ban.
My sweetie deserves a medal. I know I was shrieking in pain and disorientation, and as terrified as I was I know he had to have been as well. This for HOURS.
I'm doing better today, but I'm keeping it to super-soft foods and liquids. I really want to be able to travel to San Diego on Saturday to see the folks.

Friday MAC Attack

check my badass out ;)

http://nbc15.madison.com/news/headlines/3708056.html

After the NARAL press conference on Tuesday I was interviewed on the street about these DUMB-ASS shirts on sale to young men at a local department store. They used three of my quotes. Yay! =) Too bad they didn't give the Pro-Choice WI the airtime. At least my "Prevention First" sticker showed. Watch the video!

arrrrrrrghhhhhhh!

I think it's disingenuous to proclaim that pro-choicers are all pro-abortion. I believe that whether or not someone believes that abortion is the right choice, everyone should make the decision for themselves, with the help of their physician, clergy, or family. Making it harder to procure legally will only result in more dangerous procedures.
Plan B. is a fantastic option for people who've been raped, or those whose Plan A birth control has failed. The miniscule chance that it prevents implantation of a zygote is beside the point. The main purpose is to prevent fertilization, which prevents abortion, which is what the pro-lifers say they want...so why all the fighting?
I feel like the pro-life side really just wants everyone to stop having sex without actively trying to conceive a child. Determining for another person what their motivation for sex should be is ridiculous in the extreme.
If someone's issue is the murder of a child, then keep it to that, and support birth control. Birth control such as a condom and spermicide prevents abortions too! Education prevents abortion. Actually, in countries like the Netherlands where sex education and abortion are easily come by, the rate of abortion is only 8% of pregnancies, compared to what...50% here in the US?
If a pro-lifer is against the murder of children, then he or she should stop opposing the use of birth control.

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

so this was great.

I went with NARAL Wisconsin to the capitol steps to protest against candidate for governor, Mark Green. What a neo-fascist misogynist of the first degree!
From the NARAL website press release:

Green opposes a woman's right to birth control , even though contraception greatly reduces the need for abortion by preventing unintended pregnancy, and spacing pregnancies by using birth control is proven to result in healthier babies and mothers.
• Co-authored bill to let pharmacists withhold birth control from patients (1997 AB 953)
• Voted to allow insurers deny birth control coverage, even when they pay for Viagra (1997 AB 693)
• Voted to withhold family planning funds from the world's poorest women (2001-115)
• Repeatedly endorsed by groups that seek to criminalize birth control

This is so much bullshit. I don't recall inviting a pharmacist into my doctor's office or asking him or her about whether he or she agrees with my birth control decisions. If you don't want to dispense medications then don't fucking become a pharmacist!

Women already pay 63% more than men directly on health-care issues. So for a long time birth control hasn't been covered by insurance. I've always asked what my insurance company will pay when I'm choosing one, so that I won't have issues later getting medication. Birth control is used by 90% of women at some point in their lives, and not only for contraception. There are health conditions which require the use of hormones to control cysts and other conditions.

I've often said that family planning is less about gender war and more about class war. Rich women have always had access to proper birth control and safe abortions. It is the poor women and other minorities who suffer the brunt of the conservative policies that deny them healthcare such as cancer screening.

Criminalize birth control? I will not even respond to this or explain it because it doesn't deserve it. I will say that those groups that endorse Mark Green and seek to criminalize birth control are demented fuckwits who should be beaten soundly every moment of every day until they knock off that foolishness.

Green opposes health care access and support for mothers and children.
• Voted to allow hospitals to refuse to treat poor patients, even pregnant women (2006-004)
• Voted to slash Medicaid funds for low-income familiy and child health care (2005-601)
• Blocked a vote to increase the minimum wage to $7.25/hour, even though Wisconsin's single mothers and their families face high levels of poverty (2005-365)
• Voted to let insurance companies continue "drive through delivery" practice of kicking new mothers out of the hospital 12 hours after giving birth

More of the same. What a bastard.  TWELVE HOURS? Jesus.

I can think of fewer ways I'd rather spend my time than going to the state capitol to tell the world what a jackass this guy is.
Oh, woops! Looks like Mark Green messed up some more! And again!

fuckin busybodies...

good god. I didn't want to hire this woman in the first place. The whole situation reeks. I need staff for my house, and she is related to two other fuckin busybodies that already work with the company. Bleccchhh! These people give me hives. And now I have to deal with putting this other one into her place. Again. If she wants my fuckin job then she'd better fuckin grab an application and do it - or let me do it already. I mean, what the fuck? I left the emergency pager on (I covered it last night) and I saw the number of the house come in. I waited for my cell to ring. It did. Was the situation an emergency? No. Was she overstepping again? Yes. Was she trying to do my job? Yes, and not just my job - now she thinks she's a fuckin nurse who can call in prescriptions. Her words: I wanted to call in a prescription. How exactly is she planning to do that, I ask?  She gonna make it up? Huh. She's ignorant, and acts like she's got one up on me because she called the pager. Well guess who called her back and set her straight? Yeah. That's right. This chick is going to get real old, real fast. She doesn't quite realize yet that I've run that place for years and know what I'm doing. I don't know what the "others" told her - but most of the time they are mistaken and/or full of shit to start with. Fuckin busybodies...

jonbenet...

I didn't care then, and I don't care now. What a freak show.

in which I speak about ranting

This is a good thing! I get to use my blogspace to rant it up about just anything I want. I looked over my last few posts and I must say that I seem really pissed off~! Hehehe! I'm not really. I think it's because I have a place to get it all down and out. Besides that, I went to my group today and found that I lost two more pounds. Yay! I would like to think I'm not huge, but after six months on Bastard Prednisone (a nasty steroid for my IBD), my pants are tight as hell! Now that I'm off I expect to see improvement. My mental capacity is returning as well - I can tell because I don't feel the fogginess that has plagued me for so long with that stupid medication. I can actually remember WORDS...and use proper vocabulary to express the way I feel. Until these past couple of weeks I thought I was just stupid. As the abilities slowly return I am impressed by my recovery, and just what that means to me.

why does it

feel like a goddamn Monday? It is Wednesday, right? I've been confused all day. Work sucketh mightily, and my staffing issues aren't going to clear up for another three weeks. I am going for a family visit and I'm still not sure where things with my father stand. Are we fighting? I don't know, because he acts like a goddamn passive-aggressive jerk sometimes. I'm not in the mood to deal with snarky comments from that quarter, just because I happen to have a brain cell that thinks independently.

fucking racist assholes

I'm as prejudiced as the next person raised in this country in mixed neighborhoods, but there's a difference between feeling a certain way (and recognizing it as prejudicial but not letting it affect behaviour), and fucking racism! There's not a person alive who does not hold certain ideas about other people. We are not human without our systems of belief. If those beliefs are false, and we can recognize them and push them out of our minds, then we win. I just can't stomach it when unadulterated, unapologetic racism goes unremarked upon. Ok. I love the alliteration there.
Back to the point. I'm supposed to be fucking UNDERSTANDING and NON-SARCASTIC and deal with the assholes in a rational manner? Fuck that.

More later when my blood pressure stops spiking.

in which I bitch about my internet connection

I went to one of my favourite blogs today and noticed there was no new post for this fyne Mundee. That's okay, I thought, because I was a bit of a lazeebonz myself. Hours later I decided to refresh my browser because I had some issues with connectivity earlier...et voila! There is not one, but TWO posts on the aforementioned blog. Both posts were stupendous. I may write comments. I'm annoyed that I was not able to see these postings earlier. I'm a schlub, I know, but I don't usually wait dayz to respond to good blogginz.
So here I am - wuz gonna leave work and now I'm late getting to my after-work bizniss!
Of course - If I get home and then check zis blog, I will most likely have no internet connection to my laptop. For some reason AT&T has decided that I'm a bumblefuck and don't need the DSL Super-HighWay. So often these days I can't connect, and am forced to work my uber-special Freecell skillz until the net is back up. I've called the company and complained and they even sent a young gent to investigate the source of all my displeasure. Ok. That just sounds bad. The "guy" came and didn't find a wiring problem. So I still have the issue ongoing...and things just continue the way they are. Bwah!!!!

Ok, except I finally saw the Chappelle Show skewer of Howard Dean and that's all it takes to get me laughing for a good 20 minutes.

Shelley, how is opposing ONE CHOICE out of the billions of choices
people made "Anti choice"? That's one of the most infuriating things
about abortion supporters. Abortion is not the only choice in the
world, it's just the one so many of us unite in opposing. And we don't
oppose it because it's a CHOICE. We oppose it because it's a choice to
KILL.

Do you call families of murder victims "anti-choice" because they are
so outraged by a choice the perp made?

him, it was a matter of when. He'd already escaped twice to kill

If somebody CHOOSES to remain a danger to others, and we CHOOSE to let

real response!

Today's post on the Raving Atheist talks about the death penalty. Dawn from the Dawn Patrol reposted it on her site because they are new buddies since he's anti-choice and she's heavy-duty Catholic. My problem with this? Dawn's commenters say they revere "all life" and then talk about how cool it is to kill prisoners in the next breath. Hypocritical asswipes. I responded in Dawn's comments and she'll probably "edit" me so I'm putting this here. because I can. dammit. =P

I am saddened by the hypocrisy of the pro-lifer agenda. How is it all right to call all life precious, and then support a death penalty? Also, there is no difference between a fetus made from consenting adults vs. forced rape, so why make any exceptions in abortion law? Life is life, and when pro-lifers say there should be exceptions besides those to save the mother just chaps me.

I'm pro-choice because I believe in the rights of the individual, not because of the subjective value of life. (I say subjective because religious and non-religious types will never agree.)

I do not support the death penalty because I believe the system is broken and there are too few cases where death row inmates had proper legal representation. Personally I could care less if rapists and murderers die...but we need to fix the system, so until then I will oppose the death penalty.

margaret sanger

was not a proponent of using eugenics to wipe out the blacks, no matter how many times those right-wing fucktards proclaim it from the rooftops. If they can't find anything to complain about they pull out the race card and bash Margaret Sanger. This is a woman who devoted her life to helping the poorer women of New York gain access to reproductive health care. They were black women, mostly, and she was working in slum areas. Her work evolved into Planned Parenthood, which helps so many women every year that the assholes who hate them can't stand it. The anti-choicers need something to attack, so they bleat out lies about Margaret Sanger being a racist who had an evil plan to wipe out all the black babies in the US. I was curious about her years back when I didn't know that much, and so I researched and wrote a paper about her for a class. I learned that she had made some statements which the anti-choicers now toss about as proof of her genocidal tendencies. Those statements were mostly about how the lower classes (in this case the poor black women) deserved access to abortions the same as everyone else.

Hitler's attempts at creating a "Master Race" through eugenic policies were rooted in white supremacy, a concept associated with (but not synonymous with) eugenics in general. Sanger promoted the idea of "race hygiene" through negative eugenics, though her writings do not indicate that she believed that any particular (ethnic) race as a whole was more eugenic or dysgenic than any other, and she condemned the anti-Semitic Nazi program as "sad & horrible."

Sanger saw birth control as a means to prevent "dysgenic" children from being born and living a disadvantaged life, and dismissed "positive eugenics" (which promoted greater fertility for the "fitter" upper classes) as impractical. Though many leaders in the eugenics movement were calling for active euthanasia of the "unfit," Sanger spoke out against such methods.

In [William] Robinson's book, Eugenics, Marriage and Birth Control (Practical Eugenics), he advocated gassing the children of the unfit. In plain words, Robinson insisted: 'The best thing would be to gently chloroform these children or give them a dose of potassium cyanide.' Margaret Sanger was well aware that her fellow birth control advocates were promoting lethal chambers, but she herself rejected the idea completely. 'Nor do we believe,' wrote Sanger in Pivot of Civilization, 'that the community could or should send to the lethal chamber the defective progeny resulting from irresponsible and unintelligent breeding.

I believe that Margaret Sanger was a product of her time. She believed in helping the poor women decrease their burden by using birth control and utilizing abortion. Her life's work was culminated when the birth control pill was made available (albeit to married couples, but it was a start). Without Margaret Sanger's struggles both here in the US and abroad, contraception as we know it today would simply not exist. I'm sure that this, more than anything else, is what makes the mysogynists fight to have her recognized as a crazy Nazi eugenically-minded cunt. I will always be grateful that women like her existed at all.

wtf?

Disturbing. It's very disturbing that so many people are against sex, and following that thread, against women having sex. I know that this is not a new conundrum for the ages, but I have heard much more of late. Those who believe in rampant chastity are operating under the belief [mistaken belief I should say] that all feminists [myself included there] are anti-chastity and want everyone to go about copulating on demand no matter what they want or don't want.

Horseshit.

It's all about choice, and if those anti-dick prudes don't want to spend their nights tied up and fucking like rabbits then jesus h. christ more power to them! I, however...would like the rope to be tied just so...

randomness, for a change

...right.
It's been pretty weird lately around these parts. Between heat, health, and world events I just think I'm gonna barf!

  • heat- yeah, it's been humid and hot and disgusting in general. In Arizona it was 118 in the shade, and round h'yeah in madtown it's been over 100 with over 100 percent humidity. Yuck!
  • which brings me to my next point: health, which is affected adversely by humidity and heat. I've been coming off meds/starting meds/yo-yo-ing weight etc...for a long time and I'm so fucking sick of it~! I remember a time when I was feeling great, working out, looking good, not nauseated 24/7, free of panic attacks, and pill count was zero. Right now lets just say that none of that is going on. I don't have a plan, but as I feel better I'm going to focus on getting back on track. The cool weather today was marvelous.
  • world events...holy shit the globe's gone to hell in a handbasket. Do we really have to stay in a place of fear, division, and hatred, like, forever? What was so wrong with dissenting points of view and a little peace in pockets? Can I just ask for Bill Clinton back? I remember the shinola that was the 80's, and the improvement in the 90's. Now I see worse and worse and worse and worse and worse and ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
Is everyone as divided as they appear? Did bush the fucktard succeed in separating the country and moving us toward a civil war? Am I supposed to be organized on one side or the other?

So what is going on? pfffffffffffffft. Gotta work.

my level of frustration

...has risen considerably! Again the pharmacy messed up an order for a client and I had to jump through hoops to fix it. They have got to be as dumb as rocks over there to screw up as much as they do.

Ok. So why is it that whenever someone becomes ill and needs to see a doctor (and is part of my caseload) it is on a Friday afternoon? No one can feel sick on a fricking Tuesday? Of course this particular client lives in BFE, and it's a 30 mile round trip. Wahoo. =P

Also, I took benadryl, aleve, and advil today, all at once, for my headache. Now I'm tired and groggy and it's an improvement but I'm a bit cranky because of it.

a beginning

From my auntie, who is researching our geneology:

"Right now I have it spread out across my living room floor---starting with maggie laura and then to her parents and theres and theres.   From you kids [that would be Tidalgrrrl, younger sister, and older brother] I can go back eight generations, and from any of your kids would be nine.   Your great, great, great, great grandmothers native name was ---way-meti- go-shee-quay,   which means tree bark medicine woman.   And her husband was Wahgoosh which is Fox."

Apparently she got a stack of historical documents from the reservation, and it's nearly 2 inches thick. Don't know how long it will take her, but I can't wait to see what turns up! Maggie Laura was my father's father's mother.

still angry

And no, it's not because I need Midol. I'm not a huge fan of the patriarchal view of women's emotions being labeled as "hysterical." I hear the news and want to scream, or cry, or throw up in the general direction of the fucktards who run the country(world). So there are people now who say that the massacre in Q'ana was justified and the 30+ children who were murdered by Israel on Sunday deserved to die because it's war time and there are no innocents during war time.
I watched Al Jazeera yesterday for an hour and it was almost too much to take. There was a child who had lost her entire family to the shelling and she was interviewed. What did she have to say? "All my family are dead, and it's your fault, Condoleeza Rice!" This girl couldn't have been older than twelve, and already she's learning to hate the US.

Along with this subject I have to comment about those who say that one has to support Israel or Hezbollah, and there is no middle ground. Well how about I don't support either, and I think they are all fucking crazy?? My tax dollars go to Israel every year. Why can't the US exert a little force in the area of a cease fire? I'll tell you why. The current administration wants Iran on the chopping block, and they can't get it there without serious bloodshed occurring so they can blame Iran. Oh, and Syria, don't forget about them.

So the UN Peacekeepers got shot at, and Kofi said they won't go back until there is a cease fire. So the US will keep the cease fire from happening so they can keep the UN out of it. Oh man, that is a whole nuther can of worms and I could go on for days about the underhanded tactics going on in our government.

But now I have to go get some Geek Lunch with a chaser of Midol. =P

so damn depressing!

Lately I feel like a character in A Handmaid's Tale. There are so many attacks against the rights of women these days. I know that in the past it was a lot worse, but not in my life time! When I was born in 73 ~ Roe v. Wade had already been established. We had access to birth control, free clinic exams (which I took advantage of while a teen), and reproductive care was assured. By that I mean that nobody but my doctor or nurse was going to have any say about my choices in that care. I had an abortion in 1995 and it was paid for by the State of California. I had cancer on my cervix and got free treatment at a clinic in Barrio Logan in San Diego, and continued care as long as I wanted. I actually got turned away from Planned Parenthood for a depo-provera shot because of my history of depression, and then was able to get it at my regular clinic instead. I didn't hold that against Planned Parenthood, because I had other options! These days everyone and their brother has decided that they know what's best for women, and won't hesitate to do or say anything they want to that end. Pharmacists are refusing to fill prescriptions, doctors are refusing to perform procedures, ambulance drivers are refusing to transport patients, and nurses are even refusing to administer comfort meds to cancer ward patients. This is all in the name of Christ, by the way. I am so angry with all these fucking do-gooders who just want to meddle in other people's lives, unasked and unwanted. Who the fuck died and made them God? Why the fuck haven't these assholes gotten the smackdown by the medical community at least, for a start? The ambulance driver was fired, and then she sued for religious discrimination. Well, what the fuck? What about the woman who desperately needed a ride to the fucking hospital as she was hemorraging from a miscarriage? Grrrrr.
The doctor who refused to give a lesbian a physical exam necessary for her adoption procedure wasn't even given a slap on the wrist.

Someone has assured me that these evil fuckers are on the wrong side of things and on the way out. I will believe it when I see it.

and then he said...

Irregardless. I fucking shit you not - he said it~! What a fricken moron. Course, I'm just a biatch for holding lack of grammar, vocabulary, and competence against those in a position superior to mine.

not sure about this one.

MySpace is weird. By weird I mean strange as in new to me. I've been on it for a long time, and just now am getting the hang of things. I figured out how to put Ben Folds mini-videos on there and play "Landed" when people click on my profile. A lot of people from my old HS in California are on there too. I'm remembering a WAY lot about HS that I had thought faded from my memory years ago.
I realized, too, that I've changed a lot. I was a thrill-chaser, party animal back then and that's just not the case any more. I KNIT for christ's sake. If anyone can't remember me then I'll make them a scarf with my face on it. HAHA!
Well, anyway, it's fun.
